CHAC’s support enables pensioner to pay their rent

CHAC Case study

Conrad’s story

When Conrad reached the pensionable age of 66, his entitlement to Universal Credit (UC) ended and he didn’t know how he was going to pay his rent.

Conrad was claiming his state pension but it wasn’t enough to cover the cost of his rent so he turned to Canterbury Housing Advice Centre (CHAC) for help.

How CHAC helped

We were able to advise Conrad that, in addition to his state pension, he was now entitled to claim Housing Benefit.

The outcome

We helped Conrad complete an online claim for Housing Benefit and ensured his new weekly payments of £136 (which covered his rent) were backdated to the date of his 66th birthday.

We conducted a benefit check for Conrad which revealed he was also entitled to Pension Credit (PC) payments of £73. We helped Conrad complete an online claim for these payments too.
